GenPE - Estudio de Genes Candidatos en Preeclampsia

International study of genetics and Preeclampsia PDF Print E-mail
GenPE Project is a great scale genetic association study for the identification of genetics markers involved in the development of Preeclampsia. This project will help with the design of tools for the prevention and treatment of this disease.

Preeclampsia is an exclusive complication of pregnancy, characterized by an increment in the blood pressure and loss of proteins in the urine. It starts silently and only became apparent after the 20 week of gestation. In Colombia, Preeclampsia is the first cause of maternal and fetal mortality and morbidity, becoming a high social cost disease for the mother and the product.

For the development of this project, we have created a great consortium in which there are participating prestigious Colombian universities such as the CES from Medellín, Universidad de Cartagena, UIS from Bucaramanga, FUCS and Pontificia Javeriana from Bogotá and Universidad del Cauca from Popayan. The project also receives the advising of researchers from the University College London and the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.
